Compress images to a smaller file size
Big photos slow down websites and fail to attach to emails. Drop your images, set the quality and, if you like, a maximum size, and download smaller versions. Nothing leaves your device.
Drop images here, or click to choose
JPG, PNG or WebP. Up to 30 images. Nothing is uploaded.
Compression is lossy: some detail is traded for a smaller file. Keep your originals.
How it works
- Drop one or more images.
- Move the quality slider and optionally choose a smaller longest side.
- Compare the sizes shown and download the results.
How the compression works
Each image is redrawn and saved again as JPG or WebP at the quality you choose. Lower quality means a smaller file and a little less detail. For most photos a quality of 70 to 85 is a good balance.
Reducing the pixel size
The biggest savings usually come from reducing the dimensions. A phone photo at 4000 pixels wide is far larger than a web page needs; 1920 pixels is plenty for most uses.
Already-small files
If a file is already well compressed, saving it again may not make it smaller. The tool tells you when that happens, so you can lower the quality or the size.
Metadata
Because the image is rebuilt from its pixels, camera details and GPS location are not kept in the compressed copy.
Questions
Are my images uploaded?
No. Compression happens in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
What happens to PNG files?
They are saved as JPG or WebP, so transparent areas are filled with white in JPG. Use WebP if you need to keep a clean look on websites.
Will the quality drop?
Slightly, at any setting below the top. Keep your originals and check the result before you use it.
How many images can I compress at once?
Up to 30. Each one gets its own download button and the total saving is shown above them.
